Down2PDF started the way many good tools do—out of personal frustration. As a software engineer with a background in AI/ML and full-stack development, I spent countless hours writing documentation in Markdown. README files, technical specs, project proposals—all written in the clean, simple syntax that developers love.
But whenever I needed to share these documents outside the dev world—with clients, stakeholders, or anyone who doesn't live in GitHub—I hit the same wall. "Can you send that as a PDF?" became a constant refrain. And the existing solutions were all problematic:
I wanted something simple: paste Markdown, get PDF, done. No uploads, no installs, no complexity. So I built it.
My background in AI/ML and systems engineering shaped how Down2PDF works. The core philosophy is simple: do more with less, and never compromise on privacy.
The entire application runs in your browser using JavaScript. When you click "Download PDF," the rendering happens on your device—your Markdown never travels over the internet. This isn't just a privacy feature; it's an engineering decision. Client-side processing means faster results, works offline, and eliminates server costs that would eventually require monetizing user data.
Down2PDF uses Marked.js for Markdown parsing, html2canvas for rendering, and jsPDF for PDF generation. These are battle-tested, open-source libraries. There's no proprietary magic, no hidden tracking, and no server-side processing. What you see is what you get.
